Beach Holidays in Italy: Numana
This sea resort town is perfect for a romantic getaway or relaxing beach holidays in Italy.
Further south from Sirolo is Numana, a picturesque village on Monte Conero coast. The history of this little town goes back to the 8th century BC. Numana was a base and a port for the Greeks, the Picenes and the Romans. An earthquake destroyed the old city in 558 and again in 1292. After the last natural disaster the city lost its strategic importance and became a quiet fishing village. Numana is now a sea resort town and offers some outstanding Italy beaches. The small tourist port is still alive and active, hosting pleasure crafts. Something not to be missed in Numana is the Antiquarium, probably the most complete museum of the Picene era. The most interesting section is the one dedicated to the "Tomb of the Queen" that contained elaborated ornaments and two complete chariots.
La Spiaggiola La Spiaggiola (small beach) is right under the village and can be reached from the main square or from the tourist port. It’s tiny, sheltered and carefully tended by the owners of the many small hotels that overlook the bay.
Numana Beach Just after the port starts the beach of Numana that extends to the south for miles, it blends into the very popular Marcelli beach and continues all the way to Porto Recanati. From the port you can take the ferry that goes everyday to the secluded beach of "Le Due Sorelle" and is otherwise inaccessible. The ferry also makes a stop at San Michele beach at 11 am to pick up more passengers, reservation is not required. Along the shore is a myriad of restaurants and beach facilities offering umbrellas and beds, alternating with stretches of public beach where you can lounge for free.
