Beach Weddings in Italy: Le Marche Region

Le Marche region offers miles of coast for the perfect beach weddings in Italy.

beach weddings in italy One of the most enticing locations on the Adriatic Coast is the Portonovo Bay, on the Monte Conero Coast, just south of Ancona. The beautiful Baia di Portonovo harbors a fortress built on the sea in 1810 by the French, as a stronghold against the British ships.

In the sixties the fortress was restored and became the Fortino Napoleonico, a charming hotel, furnished with period pieces and overlooking the white stone beach and the turquoise waters of the bay.

Close by, surrounded by olive trees is the stunning little church of Santa Maria di Portonovo, a gem of Romanesque architecture.

No doubt this location would make the perfect scenario for a romantic beach wedding.

Last year to fight the rising cost of marriages, the city of Senigallia and Caterpillar, a well known radio program, sponsored a group marriage.

100 young couples were wed on the same day on the “Rotonda”, a characteristic art deco round building that extends from the beach into the sea.

Although the typical wedding dress in Italy is the formal white bridal gown, for this unusual low cost ceremony anything was allowed, from t-shirts to red dresses.

If you don’t like formalities an Italian beach wedding could be your excuse for a go-as-you-please informal ceremony.
