Historic Cities in Italy: Osimo
Among the cities in Italy Osimo has a special place for its beauty and the special aura of mystery that surrounds it.
Not far from Ancona, Osimo will make a refreshing afternoon visit after a morning spent on the riviera beaches of Monte Conero. This charming hill town offers a breathtaking view of the plains below and is always cool and breezy.
The serene aspect of the streets and piazzas hides a more mysterious and intriguing side of this small city in Italy. Last time we visited, we had a lovely lunch at the restaurant in Palazzo Baldeschi, on the main square and the owner told us the story of the resident ghost. A lady had been buried alive for punishment of his infidelity and her ghost haunted the palace for centuries. Finally, during restructuring works, a skeleton was found in a tiny chamber, a window was left open from the room and the ghost finally placated, never showed up again. Recently was open to the public a maze of underground galleries

and chambers said to have been shelter to the templar knights. The visit are organized and conducted by volunteers and is advisable to book in advance.
Another point of interest in this historic town is the Sanctuary of
San Giuseppe da Copertino
. He became famous in his times for falling into a state of flying ecstasy that aroused the interest of the Inquisition. To protect him from this dubious fame he was sent to Osimo where he spent peacefully his last years.
