Climate Of Italy

The climate of Italy is continental in the inland northern areas like in the cities of Bologna and Milan but it turns Mediterranean in the south and coastal areas.

In the Alps (north of Italy) and Apennines (along the center of the peninsula), the climate in Italy turns cold, wet and snowy in winter.

So, as you can see, the weather in Italy varies depending on the area you are visiting and the season of your holiday.

In Le Marche region the climate is typically Mediterranean along the coast but it turns cold and snowy in the inland especially during the winter months.

Check below today’s weather in Italy - Rome.

When to go: best time to visit Italy and Le Marche

Spring (March, April, May)

The temperatures are generally mild but the weather tends to be somewhat unstable. The fields are a tender green and wildflowers are blooming in the Sybillini Mountains. La piana di Castelluccio in bloom is an unforgettable sight.

Summer (June, July, August)

High temperatures and stable weather call for a beach or mountain holiday. July and August are the hottest months, the beaches are populated and bursting with life day and night. Sunflowers are in bloom. It’s high season also for local festivals and fairs.

Autumn(September, October, November)

The weather tuns cool but often offers stable and pleasant days. The color of the countryside are vivid. It is time for harvesting and celebrating truffle, grapes and chestnuts.

Winter(December, January, February)

It can be cold and rainy but this season has nevertheless its charm and you'll still be able to visit museums, art towns and maybe go skiing in the Sibillini Mountains. Christmas is celebrated with nativity scenes. February is time for carnival festivals.

My favorite months are May, June, September and October. During these months it won’t be overcrowded and the temperatures are mild: you’ll be able to tour at your convenience without booking. If you plan a lot of outdoor activities you’ll find this time of the year especially pleasant.
