After a visit to the Todd’s and Nero Giardini outlets, two of our favorite sources of Italian designer shoes, we went to Fermo for the antiques market.
During July and August the stands are all over the town center every Thursday night. We started the evening with an impromptu wine tasting of
Passerina and Pecorino
, two excellent local wines made with grapes typical of this area.
Stalls were selling all sorts of antiques and hand made goods, from ceramics to tiny baby shoes.Climbing the twisty streets we finally arrived at the main square that suddenly opened in front of us like a theater curtain.
On our way out of town we met a group of drummers in mediaeval costumes announcing the beginning of the games for the Cavalcata dell’Assunta, a two week long medieval festival with costume reenactments, games, costume parades and competitions.
The drummers costumes were perfectly fashioned and while they were drumming away, I noticed their booths, beautifully made with the most luscious soft leather, a credit to the local Italian made shoes.
