Italy Beaches: Porto Recanati
Porto Recanati is one of the most enchanting and homely Italy beaches with its castle surrounded by small houses and clean and tidy streets.

We love to walk along the seaside of Porto Recanati, this unassuming but charming Italy beach. Along the shore is neatly aligned a long strip of exquisite little houses, each one with a different color and taste. The restaurants and bars that flank the beach keep a kind of welcoming but unpretentious profile. Many restaurants offer the “ brodetto”, a local, delicious fish stew seasoned with local saffron. Porto Recanati is still a fishing harbor and brodetto was the traditional dish of the fishermen families.
In the parallel main street, “il corso principale”, are some interesting fashion shops (we are after all in the shoe manufacturing area) and an endless choice of ice cream shops. The italian gelato is a guiltless treat. It is lighter than the ice cream, because is made with milk instead of cream and comes in an incredible number of different tastes and variety. Each year the gelatai (ice-cream artisans) come out with new ideas and each one offers a specialty. The evenings at the resort beaches in Italy are well spent walking along the main street and sampling the latest ice cream flavors.
At the side of the Porto Recanati main street opens an unusual square, built in a style that we realized is becoming the trademark of the town. The building are somehow reminiscent of the old little houses but more colorful. The overall look is pleasant and cheerful and the abundance of palm trees gives the place a festive feeling. Porto Recanti is obviously working hard at renewing itself within the tradition. On the main square is the towering castle. Originally build to protect the coast from pirate attacks, it now houses the Pinacoteca Comunale with an important paintings collection. During the summer the courtyard becomes an open air theater.
