Marche Travel: Trasportation in Italy and Le Marche Region

Useful info about Marche travel, train travel in Italy and the Italian transportation system.


By Plane

Low cost airline Ryanair and Easyjet offer great deals on tickets to to Italy.

The prices vary greatly according to the date, so if your dates are flexible, check for the best deals.

They both fly from Stansted: Ryanair connects it to Ancona (the main airport in Le Marche) and Rome; Easy jet flies to Rome, Bologna and Venice. It could be a good idea to visit Rome or Venice first and than have an easy time in Le Marche.

Transportation in Italy is on the whole well coordinated. Rome and Milan, the main Italian airports, have daily flights to Ancona-Falconara airport.

Ancona is also connected to international destination like London, Paris, Barcelona and Moscow.

The terminal was recently renovated, it now looks modern and stylish but is still small and user friendly. You won’t get lost in endless corridors or walk for miles to get to the check in counter.

At the arrival all major car rental companies have their booths so it will be easy for you to pick up your car.

A bus connects the airport with the center of Ancona, the train station and the Port.

Marche Travel By Car

To discover Le Marche and the charm of Italian countryside a car is essential.

Traveling from Rome to Le Marche is a very pleasant drive.

Take the highway through the majestic mountains of Gran Sasso. Follow the signs to L’Aquila, Teramo and you’ll get to the Southern end of the region.

To get straight to Ancona you can drive through Terni, Spoleto, Foligno and Fabriano.

If you need a break, the ancient towns of Spoleto and Fabriano offer the opportunity for a stop and a visit.

By Ship

Ancona is a busy port, it connects to Greece, Croatia and Turkey.

Le Marche can be your holiday destination or just a refreshing stop in your trip to these countries.

By Bus

Another way of traveling from the est to the west coast of Italy, is by bus.

Modern motor buses are efficient if you want to reach a town that is not connected by train or with a cheap flight.

The number of lines are limited but if the itinerary suits your needs, it’s a comfortable and inexpensive way of transportation in Italy.
