Best Beaches in Italy: Sirolo
The small village of Sirolo on the Monte Conero coast, offers some of the best beaches in Italy.
Spiaggia Urbani Hands down our favorite of the riviera beaches of Monte Conero coast. This small shore is located right under the village of Sirolo. Perched over the beach there is a picturesque group of houses, once fishermen homes, now small restaurants and tiny hotels. Park your car in the parking lot just over the beach or ride the public bus, they are both on the expensive side but well worth it. At the seaside you can rent umbrellas and beach chairs or lounge at the public side. At the end of a hard day at the beach sit at the Ristorante Arturo, sip a well deserved glass of Verdicchio and enjoy the sunset.
San Michele If you are more on the wild side you might explore San Michele Beach, located a little further north from Spiaggia Urbani. I love walking there, taking the road that starts just behind Hotel Beatrice. If nobody is looking you can take a shortcut through the Hotel Beatrice parking lot. It’s a fifteen minutes hike through a lovely pine tree wood. Very relaxing and a good exercise to boot. The north end of the beach, called Sassi Neri, used to be one of the unofficial nude beaches in Italy. The nudist used to roam also the impervious beach of La Vela, close to Portonovo bay but they are now believed to be extinct. Maybe you would be adventurous enough to check it out. The south end is wider and more comfortable, it can be reached also with a path that starts from Sirolo public garden. Like at Spiaggia Urbani is possible to rent umbrellas and sun beds or lounge on the public side. At the beach you’ll find also a couple of simple restaurants where you can take a break for a cool beer and a sandwich or salad.
Le Due Sorelle This beach is definitely on the wild side, no umbrellas, sun beds and civilized amenities, only sun, sea and a beautifully dramatic landscape: one of the best beaches in Italy. In the best tradition of “no pain, no gain” , Le Due Sorelle can only be reached by boat or with a really impervious and at times dangerous mountain path, Il Passo del Lupo, that comes down from Monte Conero. During the summer a public boat sails daily to this beach. She leaves from the Numana port at 9.00 and 10.00 am and comes back at 12.30 and 15.00 pm. The trip takes about 30 minutes. No reservation is needed.
